We’ve decided to join The Broke and the Bookish‘s Top Ten Tuesday meme, because we ran out of creative 5 Fandom Friday prompts, but love making lists. So here we are!
This week’s topic: 10 books we think every fantasy fan should read.
1. The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien
King of Fantasy. Need we say more?
2. Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling
We strongly believe that everyone, not only fans of the fantasy genre, should read Harry Potter, if they haven’t already. There’s an entire generation raised on that stuff, after all!
3. Throne of Glass & A Court of Thornes and Roses, Sarah J. Maas
They’re great books, with a badass female lead, and that’s a rare enough thing. They are also well written books, and the stories are great.
4. The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices & The Dark Artifices, Cassandra Clare
It’s a great world that Cassandra Clare created, something different, with great humor and fun characters.
5. Inkheart, Cornelia Funke
This trilogy is well known and loved in Germany, and not just by children. The story is fantastic and so different from anything you’re used to reading and have read a hundred times, and the writing is great.
6. The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis
Again, a classic.
7. Game of Thrones, G.R.R. Martin
If you love the show, read the books. It’s great fantasy, especially for those who love books for which the author has created an entire world.
8. Arcadia trilogy, Kai Meyer
These books are not quite what you might expect, which is also something that is getting increasingly rare these days. They’re different, and the writing is great, and the characters feel very human in their flaws and actions and thoughts.
9. The Black Magician trilogy, Trudi Canavan
We loved reading these books, for their writing, for their characters, but mostly for their world.
10. The Thief Lord, Cornelia Funke
Another German classic, but we thought we’d put it on the list anyway. It’s a fantastic book, despite being for kids. It’s an adorable story with a great lesson to be learnt about growing up and growing old, written in perfect Cornelia Funke style, with heart breaks and laughter.
OMG I love the cover for Arcadia Awakens. Definitely going to have to check that one out. Thanks!
