Top Ten Tuesday | Mother’s Day Freebie

It was Mother’s Day this weekend in many many countries – except the one where my mom lives, apparently. But Happy Mother’s Day to every other Mom out there! Mine’s gonna get her Day a bit later, I guess.

Anyway, this week’s Top Ten Tuesday is all about those Wonder Women, so here goes our list of favorite mothers in literature!

Post-list-doing-addition: Jesus Christ, why do people in the literature we read have such very complicated relationships with their mothers? Why are there so few good, loving mothers, who are also alive?

1. Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling

Molly Weasley. The woman who loved all of her children with everything she had, and still had enough love to give for Harry, and Hermione.Image result for mrs weasley gif

Felicity Huffman's What the Flicka-Molly Weasley

2. A Song of Ice and Fire, G.R.R. Martin

Catelyn Stark is a great mother – to every one of her children except Jon, but that’s a very different conversation. She is willing to sacrifice everything for her children, and she loves them fiercely. Again, not so happy about how she handled the whole Jon-thing… but she was a good mother to her other children.

3. Matilda, Roald Dahl

I have loved Miss Honey since the first time I watched the movie, and I loved her in the book as well. She’s sweet, and kind, and attentive; she gives Matilda what she needs, which is not only an adult who loves her, but also someone who takes her seriously.

4. The Fault in Our Stars, John Green

Hazel’s mother is a very supportive, loving, caring mother, who has to watch her daughter slowly die, but doesn’t let her affect the way she loves her. She’s a very remarkable mother in our opinion.

5. The Infernal Devices, Cassandra Clare

Although Charlotte is not really the mother of anyone at the Institute (until she has her own kids, off course), and even though she’s not remotely old enough to be Will’s or Jem’s or Jessamine’s mother, she still acts like one, and loves them like one.

Charlotte Branwell !!!!!!!! Love and respect to this woman !:

I found this on Pinterest, and because there’s not really a gif for Charlotte cause there’s no movie or TV show, I found this would fit perfectly.
